Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is the third-largest of its kind in the world and one of the largest cultural events in Australia. Established in 1987, the festival is an annual event which is held over four weeks – typically commencing in March and running through April. Melbourne Town Hall served as the festival’s hub in the early 1990’s, but now performances are held in numerous venues all over the city.
This year, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival will run from 29th March 2017 to 23rd April 2017.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival caters for all tastes – from stand-up acts and cabaret performances, to sketch shows, plays, improvisational theatre, debates, musical shows and art exhibitions. The televised Gala is one of the Comedy Festival’s flagship events, showcasing short performances from many headline and award-winning comics. Other high profile events include The Great Debate, The Opening Night Super Show, and ‘Upfront’ – a night of laughs featuring only female comedians.
