Five Melbourne Spring Ideas

Winter is finally coming to an end with Spring fast approaching Melbourne. Spring in Melbourne is the time of spectacular concerts, the AFL Grand Final and the Melbourne Cup. Planning a trip to Melbourne, but don’t want to attend every major event on the calendar? Check out our Five Melbourne Spring Ideas that will make your city stay a memorable one.

  1. Carlton Farmers’ Market

    Melbourne Spring Ideas

Want to experience Melbourne like the locals do? Why not head to the Carlton Farmers’ Market? Located at Carlton Primary School, the market is an easy 20-minute tram trip from our hotel. Simply hop on Tram 96 from the corner of Bourke and Swanston streets (heading towards Brunswick) and get off at Stop 15. From there it’s a short stroll (take a left on Palmerston Street!) to the action!

The Carlton Farmers’ Market is proudly presented by Melbourne Farmers Market and has more than thirty stallholders offering a great range of ethical, local food. There is no better taste than fresh, seasonal produce that has been prepared fresh for the markets!

The Carlton Farmers’ Market is held on the first Saturday of every month. Market dates for Spring include the 2nd of September,  7th of October and the 4th of November 2017. Entry is by gold coin donation with all the proceeds going towards Carlton Primary School’s programs.

Want to know more about Carlton Farmers’ Market or any of the other local markets held in Melbourne? Head over to Melbourne Farmers Market for more information.

  2. Pop-up Globe

    Melbourne Spring Ideas

Are you a fan of Shakespeare? Don’t mind a few laughs? Like an elaborate costume or two? Don’t miss out on Pop-up Globe, the world’s first full scale temporary working replica of one of the greatest theatres in history! Held at Kings Domain (adjacent to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl), Pop-up Globe will be presenting four critically acclaimed productions including As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello and Henry V. Don’t miss out on the fun from September 21 – November 12 2017.

  3. The National Geographic Photo Ark Exhibition

If you are travelling to Melbourne with the family and still want to head to an exhibition or two, The National Geographic Photo Ark Exhibition is perfect for you. The Australian-first exclusive photo exhibition is the result of an ongoing multi-year effort to capture the portraits of the world’s wildlife. Through these portraits (taken by acclaimed photographer Joel Sartore), National Geographic and Melbourne Zoo want to empower people to save the animals of the world before it is too late.

The photo exhibition is included with general admission to Melbourne Zoo and will be open to the public until October 1 2017.

  4. Melbourne Laneways and Street Art

    Melbourne Spring Ideas

Looking for an inexpensive way to enjoy Melbourne? Why not explore Melbourne’s laneways and admire the street art for free? Popular laneways like Hosier Lane (an easy 500m walk from the hotel), Union Lane (240m) and Blender Lane (1.3km) are all well-known attractions in their own right, however there is an abundance of street art outside of the Melbourne CBD for both locals and tourists to enjoy. Johnston Street and Rose Street in Fitzroy are a street art lover’s dream, with Easey’s in Collingwood taking the street art cake for being the home of the five-story mural of Beyonce.

  5. The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture

Are you more fashion-inclined? The National Gallery of Victoria celebrates the seventieth anniversary of the House of Dior in spectacular style with the Seventy Years of Haute Couture Exhibition. Exclusive to Melbourne, the exhibition features an elaborate display of over 140 clothing items from Christian Dior Couture that were designed between 1947 and 2017. The exhibition is open to the public from August 27th – November 3rd 2017 and also coincides with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (September 1 – 8 2017) for those after a double dose of fashion and style.
