We stay at ibis Styles Melbourne, The Victoria Hotel each year during Grand Prix week. We have done so for the past few years and will continue to come back. Our stay is always a pleasant one, with friendly and helpful staff – any request is dealt with immediately and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed and are serviced daily. There is access to a pool, work out area, internet, lounge and bar. Their recent renovations were done quietly and without inconvenience to patrons. The hotel’s location is perfect, so close to everything and a full breakfast available each morning. I would highly recommend this hotel as ‘the place to stay in Melbourne’.
I have been a guest at The Victoria Hotel every year since 1988 and have always found the staff and front office manager to be exceptional, always very approachable and always ready to help. The location of the hotel is perfectly placed within easy walking distance to all of Melbourne’s main shopping malls, arcades, the Victoria Market, and all the inner city activities. The facilities have been constantly upgraded over the years and offers great accommodation, fine dining and a relaxing lounge/bar. Mr. Psaila who has been the front office manager over many years is a great asset to the hotel and seems to have great respect from his office staff. Although now in my 70’s, I hope that I can continue to travel each year for many more to come to enjoy the hospitality, charm and grace of The Victoria Hotel. I love Melbourne and I love The Victoria Hotel.

We first stayed at The Vic in 1996 for 12 nights during a trip home from Glasgow to show my husband my town. We both retired and moved from Scotland to Frankston in 2004 and since then, The Vic has been our Melbourne home when we travel into the city for shows or sporting events.
Through changes of management, The Vic has thankfully kept its character and it truly does feel like our home when we are greeted by our first names and smiles on arrival. All the staff are helpful, not just those on the front desk, and we have introduced many friends and relations from Australia and overseas to the hotel over the years and never have had a complaint! The location couldn’t be better – no matter what you plan to do. Vic’s Bar is user-friendly with, importantly, good toilets and we always look forward to our buffet breakfast next door.
One of the main differences to many other hotels of its kind is the room fridge with cold water and milk in – no unwanted mini bar! We have no idea how many times we have stayed at The Vic, but we’ll always be back! We must admit that, being a very old-fashioned couple, we did prefer the Art Deco foyer to the current one, but the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff hasn’t changed and that is all important.
Thanks to you all, especially our good mate John Psaila and we’ll be back again and again.
My wife Donna and I just love staying at The Vic. We have travelled from Western Australia for the past seven years and each year we always look forward to it.
The Victoria Hotel is like family to us now, the staff are just wonderful, always polite and very helpful – from cleaners to management.
I must say, over the years we have met and made friends with many of the staff – none more so than John Psaila, the Front Office Manager. His heartfelt passion and inner love that he has for The Vic rubs off on all those around him.
The rooms at the hotel are just splendid, the meals at Alice’s Thai Restaurant are delicious and the buffet breakfast option is very well presented. Vic’s Bar is beautifully located at the top of the grand staircase.
My wife and I will be staying at The Vic until we can no longer travel, it is truly part of our lives now.
I am delighted to pass on my experience of that grand old lady, The Victoria Hotel.
The Hotel’s top feature is her staff. The Front Desk, plus Joe in the car park, are always welcoming and make you feel at home. They even remember my favourite room and ensure that I stay there, if it is at all possible.
Of course, the hotel’s position is incomparable; you walk out the door right into the centre of Melbourne. This also means one feels safe when walking at any time of the day or night.
Since the recent upgrade of all the rooms and public spaces, the standard of the facilities are equal to those in far more expensive hotels. The Mezzanine Lounge and Vic’s Bar are great places to relax and meet up with friends.
Environmental issues are well served by the ‘card in the slot’ innovation to save electricity, the option of using bath towels more than once and by optional heating and cooling, as well as the choice of an open window.
The Victoria has a warm and friendly atmosphere – and there aren’t many hotels that you can say about that.
We at Goondiwindi Travel Centre has been using the services of The Victoria Hotel with our groups and independent travel for 25 years.
The Victoria Hotel has been the base for our Melbourne Cup and other Melbourne based tours during that period. We have up to 125 passengers who join our tours and (Front Manager) John Psaila and Hotel Manager Geraldine Vejano have been of great assistance with the planning and organisation of all our tour arrangements.
We have staged several functions in the Swanston Room at The Vic all without incident. Delicious meals, well trained staff and a lovely room make the buffet luncheon and dinner a highlight of our Melbourne Cup Tour.
We also recommend it as our preferred Melbourne accommodation to all our clients as it is comfortable, clean and is in a fantastic position close to transport, Chinatown, Theatres, shopping and a plethora of amazing eating places.
The staff are second to none, always friendly and go out of their way to make our stay at The Victoria Hotel an enjoyable stay. The Vic, the place to stay in Melbourne.
